Program Goals & Objectives

• Advocates for First Nations nursing issues to all levels of government and educational institutions and professional regulatory organizations. The NPA also works collaboratively with Indigenous Services Canada for contemporary nursing needs.
• Assists in the development of policy, procedures, and manuals to reflect established standards of nursing practice and remains current with new developments in Nursing Practice.
• Supports clinical nurse practice by assisting Nurse Managers in the development and implementation of models of nursing service delivery within the Partnership.
• Actively participates in the Interprofessional Advisory Group with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan to regularly review and revise the Clinical Decision Tools that guide Registered Nurses with Additional Authorized Practice (RN AAP) in the clinical practice of assessment, diagnosing, and treating of common medical disorders. The Nurse Program Advisor also provides guidance and coordination of the Registered Nurse Specialty Practice. “The RNSP model applies to RNs who are licensed to practice in Saskatchewan and provides the opportunity for all RNs to safely and competently optimize their scope of practice in the interest of the individual client or client population” (College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan 2020).
• Coordinates the delivery of recommended education and training programs that apply to Nursing practice in Northern First Nation Communities.
• Provides Clinical Support to the Partners in the need for Surge Capacity.
• Advocates for the recruitment and retention of RNs and LPNs for Northern Saskatchewan First Nation Communities.
