Dental Therapist

Primary Pathway: Clinical Care

Overview:
Provides preventive and basic restorative dental services—such as cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and simple fillings—often focused on children and underserved communities. Works collaboratively under dentist supervision or independently where permitted.

What You’ll Do:

  • Oral health assessments, X‑rays, fluoride/sealants.
  • Basic restorative treatments within scope.
  • Oral health education and prevention programs.
  • Referral coordination.

Prerequisites:

  • Grade 12 diploma — Regular Grade 12, Adult 12, or GED.
  • Completion of the following (or equivalents) with an average of at least 70%:
    • Biology 30
    • Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre‑Calculus 30
    • English Language Arts A30 and B30; or ELA A30 + Français Immersion 30; or ELA B30 + Français Immersion 30; or Literature 30 + Composition 30
    • One additional Grade 12 course in a Social Science/Humanities

Mature Admission:

  • 21+ years of age; academic assessment of 60% in: Biology 30; Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre‑Calculus 30; one of the accepted Grade 12 English options above; plus one additional Grade 12 Social Science/Humanities.

  • Dental therapy training/credential; current/eligible registration where applicable.
  • Infection control, patient education, community engagement.

  • Community clinics, schools, mobile/community settings.
