Program Overview
The NITHA Public Health Unit (PHU) provides advice, support, and expertise for various public health programs including population health assessment, disease surveillance, health promotion, health protection, and disease and injury prevention. The unit provides third-level services to NITHA partners in the areas of policy and procedure development, capacity building, training and education, program development, advocacy, and partner and community support through various working groups. PHU only provides direct services to the NITHA partner communities in the prevention and management of tuberculosis.
The unit focuses on several program areas including immunization, vaccines, maternal and child health, sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections, enteric, tuberculosis, infection prevention, and control, epidemiology of diseases, health research, environmental health, and student practicum placement program. The PHU is committed to improving health outcomes within partner communities using the provincial-wide public health strategy while collaborating with both NITHA partners and other relevant stakeholders.
The PHU consists of a Medical Health Officer, Manager of Public Health, Communicable Disease Nurse, Public Health Nurse, HIV Strategy Coordinator, Epidemiologist, Tuberculosis Advisor, TB Nurse Advisor, TB Nurses, Infection Control Advisor, Environmental Health Advisor, Health Promotion Advisor, and Research Assistant.
